This work deals with themes of sexuality, insecurity and contradiction. My early work is very introspective and closeted. I was communicating the dilemma of being stuck in the closet and working through my own feelings about being gay. My depression, self-loathing and hiding my queer-ness whilst presenting as straight, informed the lard, tar, brass and wood series.

Glass Tar and Lard
What became very exciting about this work was the introduction of light. Smearing dripping and pouring the lard and the tar created blues and greys that had not been seen in previous works. There was a slight hint of Pollock within the dripping of the tar. This work was very dark and introspective. Quietly insistant on the observers attention.
